Facilitator Skills for Edgelings
Facilitator Skills for Edgelings
A 3-day Workshop:
I’m delighted that many of you are finding that what is ‘yours to do’ involves working with groups. More and more of us are recognising that Facilitation Skills are absolutely vital!
In a previous life, before I woke up to the meta-crisis, this was a workshop I offered regularly on a commercial basis. This 3-day workshop would be free to you, other than funding your accommodation if you stay at Hunton Park. I generally only offer this workshop once a year.
Facilitation comes from the Latin root ‘facere’, which simply means ‘to make easier’. It includes the following skills:
Building Connection, Engagement and Trust
Asking Great Questions
The Iceberg of Group Dynamics
Paying Attention to Task and Process
Ways to get People Involved
Resolving Conflict in Groups
Non-Verbal Behaviours
Separate Realities
Intervening Skills
Creating a ‘Contract’
Framing
Tools for Inviting the Group into different Emotional States
Music and Movement in Groups
Developing more Behavioural Flexibility as a Facilitator
It will be a smallish group – I’ll cap it at about 10 people, so there’s lots of time for practice. There’ll be opportunities to get coaching on your specific context, and for you to walk away with more confidence and competence in the skills you most want.
This workshop runs twice a year.
“It was a privilege to spend three days being coached by Kim and see behind the curtain of her magic. To learn from a master in any field is always a joy, and this workshop was no exception. Kim’s framework for how she thinks about holding the energy of a group has been a real eye opener for me, and given me many elements of facilitation to play with and make my own. Whatever route our future might take, the facilitator’s role in fostering creativity, collaboration and community action will doubtless be of great value..”
“As someone at the start of their facilitation journey I absolutely adored getting under the bonnet of Kim’s magic through this 3-day workshop. I found it liberating knowing that I have the power to invite a group into different emotional states and that I can respond to challenges in ways that allow me to ‘get out of my own way’ and bring the wisdom of the group to surface. I especially loved exploring how we might bring all the senses into our facilitation practice - music, movement, scent, visuals, nature-connection, and more!”
“Anyone who has been to the Edge and seen Kim in action will know that she is a GREAT facilitator. So, you are learning from the best! I would highly recommend this workshop for anyone working with any kind of group in the community. The course allowed us to embrace lots of different skills, with plenty of time for hands-on practice. The small, friendly group size meant that practicing did not feel daunting. It not only gave me the confidence to facilitate meetings – it made me positively excited to get out there and do it! ”
“Those of you who have experienced the Edge retreat will have experienced the deep and lasting effects of being in a group facilitated by Kim.. Her “facilitation workshop” was similarly impactful….but this time a small group of us got to see behind the veil and hear about the science and techniques underpinning the magic. The treasury of knowledge gathered over decades and honed by understanding the metacrisis, was generously shared - and we were able to witness it being implemented in real time, by a master practitioner - with plenty of opportunities to practise it ourselves in bite sized chunks. I have come away much wiser and more confident to step into a helping role in the many nested groups I find myself in. And the ripples go far - I am now a much better facilitator - but also a better group participant-a better father and a better friend. Thank you Kim.”
“I came into this programme looking to be challenged to move out of my comfort zone as a facilitator. The interactive, fun practical sessions certainly helped me add more variety to my current practice. The interactions with Kim and the other beautiful learners in the cohort challenged me in ways that will help me hold complexity and hold back from always trying to find a consensus outcome. I have all the tools from this workshop to help me be more adventurous, take more risks and to really try to awaken the possibility in people during the dying embers of modernity. Through this process, I hope to seed a future that will enable my children and grandchildren to live wholesome, loving and fulfilling lives.”
“Really brilliant course! I learnt so much more than I thought I would/ could in a few days. A really well balanced few days which covers an excellent mix of material and activities, with a great blend of learning styles to help us all absorb its content in our own way. I now have so many tools in my toolkit to be aware of and use as and when needed, which gives me confidence that I can handle whatever’s thrown at me. If you are wanting to work with groups in these times, you should do this course! ”
“Kim’s Facilitation workshop is fantastic. It provided structure and framework for me to continue to deepen my understanding about humanity, group dynamics and most importantly how to bring my best self to a group. This will enable me to be able to be fully present in group work and create easy sessions for participants. I will be constantly refining and referring back to the toolkit and the vast amount of generous knowledge Kim has shared with us, they will support me in confidence to continue my work. I’m so blown away by the knowledge, skill, kindness and much more from Kim.”
“The workshop offered me everything I was hoping for and more. Kim expertly guided us in and out of activities which provided a helpful mix of practice opportunities and the learning of tools that were new to me. Kim is an amazing facilitator. For anyone who recognises a pull towards facilitation skills in these times that we face, I would highly recommend attending this course.”
“Having participated in the Edge retreat I was really excited to look behind the veil and receive Kim’s wisdom around working with groups. The training provided a balance between tools, essential first principles of working with group dynamics, interventions, and state management. I’d recommend it as an empowering course – uniquely delivered within the implicit context of a collapse-aware group. No business as usual here!”
